Everything you need to know about DataPal, MyKey and MyTerms in 2 minutes

What is DataPal

Why is MyKey important?

The start point is to make it really easy for you to create your own strong digital ‘key’ (identifier) of your own.

This standards-based key enables you to sign MyTerms agreements, sign up for and sign in to apps and services, and prove things from data that is under your own control.

Much like ‘social sign-in’ without the surveillance. And because MyKey is portable across service providers, it is yours for life, or as long as you want it. Just like your personal mobile phone number.

What is MyTerms?

MyTerms (or IEEE P7012) is the new Standard for Machine Readable Personal Privacy Terms

Launched January 2026

Why is MyTerms important?

This standard defines a mechanism for establishing contractual interactions and agreements between individuals (first parties) and service providers (second parties).

The core idea of the "MyTerms" proposition is driven by P7012, which describes how individuals, as first parties, can proffer their privacy requirements as contractual terms. These terms must be selected from a collection of standard-form agreements contained in a roster maintained by an independent and neutral non-business entity.

Key requirements of the standard include:

• The first party must point to a preferred agreement (or set of agreements) from which the second party accepts one.

• If both parties agree, the contract must be signed electronically by both parties or their agents.

• A matching record of the agreement must be kept by both sides in a form that is easily available and can be retrieved, audited, or disputed later.
